Paul Feig talks tonal decision to make a "true monster movie"

Paul Feig has explained his tonal decision to make a "true monster movie".
The Bridesmaids director is currently in the process of writing a script for Dark Army, which is a monster film unofficially spawned from Universal Pictures' pretty much abandoned Dark Universe.
Like Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, Dark Army will feature monsters from within the universe but unlike The Invisible Man — which turned out to be a thriller/horror hybrid with a scientific edge — Dark Army will be a film "about outsiders" and also a "true monster movie".

That's what Feig is writing, anyway.

"Tonally I’m being very true to the traditional monster movie genre," Feig told Collider. "Not horror movie, monster movie."
He added: "I love those movies of the 30s, the James Whale movies, [and] Bride of Frankenstein I still think is one of the greatest films of all time. So I want that tone because those movies were very fun.
"They treated them seriously, but you also know they were also having a lot of fun with them, so there are a lot of extreme characters in them and funny side characters.
"That’s what I want, I never wanted to make a horror movie. I want to make a true monster movie."

The comments follow Feig previously explaining why he has no plans to make a Bridesmaids sequel.
As most fans will agree, that's the true horror story here.
