What will shopping for jewellery, engagement and wedding rings look like post-lockdown?

With numbers in store necessarily limited, by-appointment-only boutiques could become the norm, while private rooms will be more important than ever. Most Bond Street boutiques have private areas in which consultations can take assign at a safe distance from staff and other customers. 

Cartier’s La Residence: an entire floor akin to a luxury hotel suite, with lounge, kitchen and bar, is the most extravagant. The post-Covid shopping environment may also encourage clients to seek out small, independent jewellers operating from private salons, safe in the knowledge that the entire showroom can be comprehensively cleaned between each appointment.

Beyond the boutiques, we may expect to see jewellers offer greater flexibility when it comes to bringing pieces to clients' homes, gardens and hotel suites - wherever the purchasers feel most comfortable.

Mayfair house Hirsh has plans to offer a complimentary private taxi service for its customers. A Hirsh-branded electric cab, equipped with hand sanitiser, gloves and masks and thoroughly cleaned after each journey, will transport customers from their homes (within the M25) to the boutique on Conduit Street, so they needn't travel via public transport.

Alternatively, the taxi will be used to shuttle Sophia and Jason Hirsh, the house's managing director and creative director, along with a selection of jewels, to clients' homes or to outdoor appointments. 

“Creating a special, personal customer experience is always at the forefront of everything we do. We wanted to take our level of customer experience even further to ensure our customers feel safe and secure, and the Hirsh Taxi will allow us to do just that,” says Sophia Hirsh.
