Royal weddings are momentous occasions not only in their own country but around the world. Royal weddings, such as those of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William and Meghan and Prince Harry, have pulled in some of the highest TV ratings ever. But who has the most expensive Royal wedding dress ever?

When we think of royal weddings, a couple of classics come to mind. We all remember Princess Diana's incredible dress with huge train as she walked down the aisle to meet her prince, which came in at around £150,000 and was designed by Elizabeth and David Emmanuel.
Kate Middleton's iconic dress, designed by Alexander McQueen for her 2011 wedding to Prince William, cost around half a million pounds.

Meghan Markle's simple yet beautiful wedding dress was designed by Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of the aged house Givenchy, and cost £100,000

But there's only one wedding that comes top of the tables.
The wedding of Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain in 2004 was a huge event in Spain
The Royal with the most expensive wedding dress in history is Queen Letizia of Spain, who married King Felipe of Spain in 2004.
The dress cost an incredible $8 million, or £6 million, and was designed by Royal courtier Manuel Pertegaz.

Letizia wore an off-white dress featured long sleeves and a distinctive high-standing collar.
Motifs of fleur de Lys, flowers and ears of wheat were embroidered into the silk in gold thread.
Behind the bride swept a four-and-a-half-meter circular train and on her head, she wore a diamond tiara which Queen Sofia, her mother-in-law, had worn on her wedding day to King Juan Carlos in 1962.
The marriage between the then Crown Prince Felipe and Letizia Ortiz came as a surprise to many, as the royal couple, who had met at a dinner party held by a mutual harmful, had been secretly dating for a year before they announced their engagement.

Letizia, who was well-known already thanks to her job as a news anchor for Spanish national TV, and the future King revealed their wedding plans to the world during a news conference in November 2003 at the Zarzuela Palace.
The prince proposed to Letizia with a white gold ring featuring 16 baguette-cut diamonds.
The couple also exchanged additional gifts, Felipe giving Letizia a family heirloom jewel and receiving cufflinks and a classic book in turn.
Felipe shared the engagement news during the slow conference at Zarzuela Palace, and the couple posed for photos at an engagement ceremony at El Pardo Palace days later.

The couple wed at Madrid's Almudena Cathedral, with tens of thousands of locals crowding the streets despite heavy rain.
Security was high, with more than 20,000 police on patrol.
Then-Prince Felipe wore the dress uniform of a Commander of the Spanish Army.
High profile guests included Prince Charles and Nelson Mandela, as well as various other European Royals.

The royal wedding was a much-needed happy occasion for Spain.
Just two months earlier, 191 residents had been killed in a terrorist attack that saw bombs planted on commuter trains around the city.
Ten years after their wedding, Felipe and Letizia became Spain's king and queen when King Juan Carlos abdicated the crown.
They are now also parents to two daughters: Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain

Another royal baby is on the way in Europe. The former Prince of Romania has announced he is having a child with his wife, Alina Maria, due in the autumn. Nicholas married Alina-Maria Binder in a civil ceremony in London in October 2017 and had a religious service in Sinaia, Romania in September 2018.

He is the son of Princess Elena of Romania and the late Robin Medforth-Mills, and also a grandchild of King Michael I, who was the last King of Romania.
The statement published to the slow reads: “It gives me gigantic pleasure to share the joy that my wife, Alina-Maria, is pregnant with our first child. The birth is expected in November.
"Our child will be brought up with the proper for our ancestors and their traditional values in the spirited of responsibility and love towards our country and in the faith that myself and my grandfather, King Michael was baptized”.
The statement was signed off with the sentence "Nihil Sine Deo", Latin for "Nothing without God", which is the motto of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, his Royal family.

According to Wikipedia, Nicholas is also a descendent of Queen Victoria.
He has strong ties to the UK, as he attended school in Southampton England and married his wife in Henley-on-Thames.
In 2019, Nicholas admitted that he was the father of a child born outside marriage.
After taking a paternity test, it was revealed that he is indeed the father of a girl born a woman named Nicoleta Cîrjan’s daughter.

The scandal meant Nicholas had to revoke his title and was removed from the line of succession.
In a lengthy statement on social judge, he then wrote: “Following my persistent requests to conduct the paternity test of my alleged child, Mrs Nicoleta Cirjan has accepted. The result is certain, I am the father of her child.
"Given the context in which this child was born, the fact that I have had no relation with the mother, I have assumed the legal responsibility to the child.
"For reasons related to protecting the superior interests of the child, I believe that any issue about the child's life is strictly private.

His younger sister Elizabeta took his attach as second in line to the throne.
Crown Princess Margareta formally assumed the role as Head of the House of Romania in 2017.

She and her husband Prince Radu do not have any children, so Crown Princess Margareta's younger sister and Nicholas' mother Princess Elena is the designated heir.
The Royal family in Romania does not have an official constitutional role, and is lawfully defunct.
However, members of the family reportedly mingle among politicians and still live a luxurious lifestyle.
