O’Connell, Green say wedding vows at First Presbyterian

Elizabeth Barry O’Connell and Aubrey Westrich Green exchanged vows before a bank of magnolia boughs and fall flowers in a candlelight ceremony November 9 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. The Reverend Dr. David T.A. Strain officiated the double-ring ceremony. 

Classical nuptial music was by Shellie Brown Kemp on the violin and the Reverend William K. Wymond on the organ. 

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Dewey O’Connell of Jackson and the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. George Edward Gillespie, all of Jackson, and the late Thelma Turner O’Connell and the late Joseph Ambrose O’Connell, Jr. of Hattiesburg. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Galloway Green III of Madison and the grandson of Mrs. James Aubrey Knight and the late Mr. Knight of Bellefontaine and the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Galloway Green Jr. of Atlanta and Natchez. 

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a sleeveless pearlized Mikado silk designer gown with structured bodice, full skirt and pleated train. The cathedral length veil was trimmed in Chantilly lace. Her bridal bouquet was bound with satin from her maternal grandmother’s wedding dress. The bride also wore her mother’s pearl bracelet, a first anniversary gift from the bride’s father.  

Ann Gillespie O’Connell of Jackson, twin sister of the bride, served as the maid of honor. The bridegroom’s sister, Susannah Knight Green of Atlanta and Katherine Lindell Sells of Tel Aviv were bridesmaids.  The attendants wore matching sleeveless gowns of deep green velvet. 

The bridegroom’s brother, Joseph Stone Green of Madison was best man. Groomsmen were Conway Raworth Craig of Madison and Leland Somers Smith IV of Austin.

Following the ceremony, a celebration was hosted by the bride’s parents at The Cedars where guests were entertained with music by Ronnie Brown. At the end of the evening, the newlyweds departed under a canopy of confetti and were driven away in a vintage Packard. 

On the eve of the wedding the bridegroom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at The Fairview Inn. The night started with a social hour for friends and family to begin their celebration before dinner.  Afterwards guests and the wedding party were entertained by toasts to honor the couple.

Following a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple is at home in Jackson.
